"FOREVER"

UPHOLSTERY RENOVATION
"Forever" has a considerable amount of upholstered cushions, mattresses and panels in the fore cabin, the saloon and aft cabin. The material was the original material, now thirty years old and was heavily worn and stained in places. We decided to change the whole lot and in December 2013, I brought all the cushions and panels from the saloon up to Bristol in a small hired car. The car, a sporty Citroen had a full length canvas sunroof that came in quite handy loading and unloading the cushions, mattresses and back rests.
We called into the Caravan and Boat Seat Covere Centre in Bristol late on a miserable Saturday afternoon and met the owner and managing director, Jon Redish. He was extremely helpful and welcoming. Firstly he took off the old covers to check the foam. The foam, in his opinion, was very good quality and did not need replacement. He then showed us numerous fabric samples and we decided to opt for a textured beige vinyl for the saloon and a hardwearing 30% wool fabric for the cabins. Jon then explained the process where they strip off all original fabric and add Dacron wadding and stockinette undercovers to the original foam. Good quality cotton ‘Twill’ would then be used for the underside of these cushions/mattresses and any cushions or panels could be buttoned at our request.
Jon then gave us extremely large plastic bags for the remaining cushions/mattresses and when we got back to "Forever" we packed the remaining mattresses into these bags. They were all collected from Exmouth by a courier in mid January 2014. We hope that the work will be completed before Easter and all the items will then be returned to the boatyard. So far I have been very impressed by the level of interest and service we have received fron Jon and his company.
